| Issue 1. | Support local shops in the High Street and try to create the conditions where empty shops are filled especialy the hulks in the Stack which have been vacant for years [Report Post] | |
| Issue 2. | Make sure there is adequate provision for children who have special educational needs especially ‘hidden’ ones such as ADHD, so that they get the time and attention need to receive an education of the same standard as the rest of the class. Also I am also apposed to railroading children with special needs into either a special school or state school if it is not in the child’s best interest. [Report Post] | |
| Issue 3. | Try to entice companies into the Lochee area and Dundee that will supply work that is either non-graduate or trades base to build up the workforce after continual closures throughout the city, which affect the residents of the Lochee ward. [Report Post] | |
| Issue 4. | Make sure there is provision of council housing plus cheap affordable housing being built that is affordable based on an average Dundonian's wage not a national average which would take Edinburgh etc prices into account. [Report Post] | |
| Issue 5. | Keep all post offices in the Lochee ward open along with all other local post offices throught the city. [Report Post] |
Question ... 'Hi Martyn
I think it's a good thing to have younger folk in office - hopefully you would bring some energy to the role. Best of luck!
Sam' |
Martyn said ... 'Thanks for the support. I totaly agree with you, more youth should be involved as candidates since that means councils and local bodies have first hand experiance of problems facing young people and not having to do survies or get info out of their children, nephews and nieces etc.' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'When you graduate, I was wondering what you have considered for a career? The big decisions are always the hardest. I'm unable to help you with this. All I will say is that the broom provided by McDonalds is far superior to any that Burger King may offer you.' |
Martyn said ... 'well for one thing if after i graduate i did work at one of these places id be on the managment fast track due to me having a degree, plus I have worked in proper catering before also unlike yourself I have the intelligence to work two fry baskets at once and would not be described as a "mouth breather"' [Report Post] |
Question ... '' |
Martyn said ... '?' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'What are your views on building on greenfield space when there is plenty of vacant building space in the city.
Regarding planning applications, if you were to be elected and therefore sit on the planning committee, would your vote be based on your personal views or that of your party?' |
Martyn said ... 'my views would be my own for one thing but on the odd occasion party loyalty would have to prevail.
Id rather see new builds on brownfield where possbile. This means that there isn't going to be large sections of unused buildings or waste ground around the city. Also im in favour of renovating where possible if the building has good design aspects.' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'What's it like knowing that Tories in Lochee are like brain cells in David Cameron. Extremely rare' |
Martyn said ... 'What's it like knowing that writing that question was probably the highlight of your week? Or that you chose not to ask a proper intelligent question that would in some way show way this site exists?' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'After what happened to the animals in Camperdown Park by Dundee children, what are your thoughts on what should have happened in way of punishments, considering nothing really was done in way of punishment. Do any of you feel it is not time to name and shame these children and thier Parents.' |
Martyn said ... 'This case has raised many points like why were they out so late, how did they manage to get in the wildlife centre in the first place.
I think nameing and shaming wouldnt be very constructive. I feel the case should have went to a proper court since they were 14 and and could have coped in an adult court. The teens involved should be monitored or passed on to the social work because if their able to do this to terapins and otters if left unchecked what could they do in a few years.
If they did do something later on in life then this case would brought up plus any potential failings of the system' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'Silly laddie no hope' |
Martyn said ... 'strange how folk said that when i was running for strathmartine ward in may but came 7/9 beating the solidarity and ssp candidate. When the previous council election over the four ward that make up the new strathmartine, SSP got near 400 votes and the tory candidate got 100ish.' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'Given that you are in your third year at university how can you guarantee that, if elected, you will be able to give the electorate the time and attention they require? One assumes that you will have finals in the Summer so surely you won't have time for council business if you are elected. If yours is a four year course, won't this problem simply be deferred until next year? ' |
Martyn said ... 'Well, firstly have you not considered that most of the councillors already elected have fulltime jobs or are also studying and also have family life to juggle? Plus many of them are busy because they members of several boards as well. Many students, right through their course have part time jobs as well, some even working sixteen hours a week yet still manage to cope. The main thing is even thought I’m going in third year applied computing I have 24hr access to the labs and software I need so can work when I want on my projects, Also if a serious meeting came up during a lecture or lab the slideshows are available online. Thus my university and council work wouldn’t be hindered.
So, tskamara by your logic extrapolated, the only people who should stand for council are: the retired, unemployed or those who work part time. This doesn’t leave a very large section of Dundonians left to stand for council since those not in these groups cannot “guarantee” full time and attention.

Question ... 'I notice that the free school meal debate is mentioned. With that in mind would you support UK farmers growing crops and livestock breeding so that it creates employment and food products for schools, hospitals etc.
The amount of subsidies that the EU pay farmers for set aside fields are adding to the taxation across the country. Surely a better use would to provide food products so that the younger generations are assured one healthy meal a day' |
Martyn said ... 'good points raised there as long as it was viable and wouldnt push up prices in the supermarket so that people on the lowest wages end up with even less health products in their budget range. A point i like about using local supplies is hopefuly to reduce the co2/milage that food has to come to our shelves. I personaly prefer to buy only scottish rasps or strawbs when in season particulary since the fiedls in the carse of gowrie are the best in Scotland' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'Is offering free school meals truly an economically viable campaign promise? How will those of you who have pledged it, going about achieving it?' |
Martyn said ... 'ive not seen the books yet but it would be good if it were viable, since for some children this would be the only hot meal or the most nutricious. Sometimes novel ideas may be need to decrease current spending for the council such as seeing if it is possible to get cheap toilet roll but at the same quality or improve efficiencys such as heat loss' [Report Post] |
Question ... 'Why do you and other posh tories have so many names?' |
Martyn said ... 'dont know, but im not posh at all. my 1st 2 names are from my mums side and my 2nd middle name is a good friend of the family. Dads side arent posh but all have middle names same with my mums' [Report Post] |
You can no longer ask Martyn questions as this election has past.
